The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday, May 15, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
First responders quickly arrived at the Harmony Heights Residential and Day School, located in East Norwich at 60 Walnut Avenue, after it went up in flames for an unknown reason that is still being investigated.
Multiple fire departments aided to extinguish the blaze.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, authorities said, and there were no reported injuries to responders.
Harmony Heights, which has been in operation since 1974, is a registered New York State high school providing an education to students who suffer from conditions such as depression, eating disorders, self-injurious behaviors, and more.
